An introduction to Focusing and how to integrate it into Shiatsu
This workshop will introduce you to Focusing, a technique developed by Eugene Gendlin. Focusing is a way of gaining a deeper emotional or physical insight into sensations in the body (Felt Sense). I have found it to be really helpful in my own process and with clients. It is a non-invasive technique which lends itself to exploring idiopathic pain or uncovering the emotional causes to pain in the body.
We will practice the steps of Focusing on ourselves. Then working with a partner, we will explore how to integrate focusing into a Shiatsu treatment.

About me
I studied Shiatsu and TCM with Akademie Qing Bai in The Netherlands where I lived for many years. I teach Kripalu Yoga – a yoga of compassion and I have an MSc in Person Centred Counselling Psychology. The thread that draws my practice together is respecting the autonomy and uniqueness of each person; there is no one Shiatsu protocol or yoga flow which fits all. This draw me towards studying Movement Shiatsu with Bill Palmer. Movement Shiatsu places the client at the centre of the treatment; as the expert, they know what hurts. Rather than begin with a diagnosis, I make a journey with the client, listening to their feedback to discover the parts of the body or qi which are not joining in the party. My practice is in Leek, Staffordshire where I see clients for Shiatsu and Counselling and run regular yoga classes and workshops. Unlike The Netherlands where Shiatsu is very well known, my challenge in the Staffordshire Moorlands is to spread the word! For more information go to: www.paulacharnley.com |
